David Robert Trevarthen
October 28, 1939 - June 20, 2022

David Robert Trevarthen, age 82, passed away on Monday, June 20, 2022, at Downey PIH Hospital due to respiratory arrest. He was born on October 28, 1939, in Huntington Park, California, to English immigrant parents named William Edward Trevarthen and Florrie Mae Penrose. David had one older sibling named George, who he very much looked up to. As a boy, David contracted encephalitis and developed epilepsy that had a significant impact on his life and health. While epilepsy presented many challenges, he worked hard to overcome those challenges to be able to provide for his family. David worked a variety of jobs through his life, including at a supermarket, deli, warehouse, plexi-glass/plastic cutting company and eventually retired as a Mailroom Clerk in the banking industry. He also once owned a printing company.

Friends, coworkers, and acquaintances always thought of David as a nice, kind and thoughtful person. He had a love for fishing, gadgets, corn and Los Angeles Dodgers baseball. In the late 1990’s, David was in a serious head-on car collision in which he sustained a broken heel and other internal injuries that kept him out of work for some time. The bank that he worked for was a sponsor of the Dodgers, so some coworkers were able to arrange for the Dodgers to send a player to visit him at his home. And the player that came to visit him happened to be his favorite Dodger, Eric Karros. That was a thrill of a lifetime for David.

While in business school/college, David met the love of his life, Esther. He and Esther had three sons named Daniel, Michael, and Timothy, and later had four grandchildren named Jillian, Megan, Noah, and Natalie. The loss of Esther to cancer in 2003, had a detrimental effect on David and the rest of his family, though he never quit his fight against his own health issues. David is also survived by his two nieces, Maureen and Jennifer and three daughter-in-law’s Cindy, Jeannette and Victoria. We will miss “Dad”, “Grandpa Dave”, and “Uncle Dave” very much!
